{"id":1689,"date":"2020-09-17T15:47:04","date_gmt":"2020-09-17T22:47:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dmkthinks.org\/blog\/?p=1689"},"modified":"2020-09-17T15:47:06","modified_gmt":"2020-09-17T22:47:06","slug":"how-to-grow-a-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dmkthinks.org\/blog\/how-to-grow-a-business\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Grow a 6-Figure Startup \u2014\u00a0in 401 Words"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Recently, our team at <a href=\"https:\/\/sendfox.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SendFox<\/a> had our two-year anniversary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It had me reflecting on how we grew from $0 to $100,000+ in monthly revenue, so I shared a message with the larger <a href=\"https:\/\/sumogroupinc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sumo Group<\/a> team on Slack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I wanted to share a slightly revised message publicly&#8230; so new entrepreneurs can see what <em>really<\/em> happens to grow a business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>&#8220;Today is another big Sumo Group milestone.<\/em><\/p><p><em>Two years ago \u2014 on September 12th, 2018 \u2014 we had our first SendFox sale. A guy named Cameron from the U.K.<\/em><\/p><p><em>In the early days, it was me and Noah hitting up all our friends to join SendFox (translation: it was mostly Noah because he has a lot of friends).<\/em><\/p><p><em>And WHILE we were hitting up everyone we knew, <a href=\"https:\/\/dribbble.com\/ibaldo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Henrique<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/grimmdude\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Garrett<\/a> were building SendFox from scratch at literally the same time. Daily, we had a new major feature \u2014 schedule emails one day, automations the next, landing pages on another.<\/em><\/p><p><em>Every sale was manual, and every day I was hustling with demo calls. Attached is a screenshot of one of our first weeks full of demos.<\/em><\/p><p><em>That first month we did $180 in sales. $180. That&#8217;s not a typo.<\/em><\/p><p><em>But we didn&#8217;t stop.<\/em><\/p><p><em>In October, we did $930.<\/em><\/p><p><em>And by the end of 2018, our monthly recurring revenue was $2,290. Advice from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/seannstubbs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Seann<\/a> on how to write killer sales copy helped a ton.<\/em><\/p><p><em>Then 2019 came, and we still pushed forward. Every month, we kept building.<\/em><\/p><p><em>More new features, and more perseverance. In mid-2019, Chad had the idea of a lifetime deal for SendFox.<\/em><\/p><p><em>My immediate thought? &#8220;No way.&#8221; But with more convos, I was convinced.<\/em><\/p><p><em>In October 2019 \u2014 thanks to Olman\u2019s help \u2014 we launched SendFox on AppSumo. It did $100,000 that month, plus $15,000 in on-site sales. (Chad was right all along.)<\/em><\/p><p><em>Now in September 2020, we&#8217;ve had our best six-month streak ever.<\/em><\/p><p><em>This wouldn&#8217;t be possible if we didn&#8217;t grow our team to a group of insanely talented people, too. Garrett and Henrique are crushing it as always \u2014 now with the help of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.producthunt.com\/@marnie_tave\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Marnie<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.sendfox.com\/author\/samantha\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Samantha<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/david-hollis-a231a813b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dave<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/rs.linkedin.com\/in\/srba-milenkovic-272043186\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Srba<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/hr.linkedin.com\/in\/luka-belik-b6835a71\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Luka<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/ph.linkedin.com\/in\/ontrahub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Garry<\/a>.<\/em><\/p><p><em>It&#8217;s still amazing to me to reflect on how far we&#8217;ve come. And for <a href=\"https:\/\/okdork.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Noah<\/a>, Chad, and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/brokerchange\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ayman<\/a> for their continued advice.<\/em><\/p><p><em>Despite all the &#8220;no&#8221; we received in the early days, we now have 30,000+ users \u2014 ~10x increase in 2019 and ~4.2x increase pace this year. It\u2019s super cool to see many of our customers include bigger names: A brand by Ryan Holiday &amp; Casey Neistat, Charlie Hoehn, Shane Snow, MuchelleB, and Yoga With Adriene.<\/em><\/p><p><em>If I were to sum it all up: How we pushed past the ups-and-downs, and what we stand for at SendFox &amp; Sumo Group\u2026<\/em><\/p><p><em>Just keep going.<\/em>&#8220;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Rome wasn\u2019t built in a day, and neither are successful businesses.
